Give your students engaging, immersive language practice
and cultural exchange.
NaTakallam partners with universities to bring real-life conversations, language learning, and cultural exchange to the classroom. Programs can focus on language learning (Arabic, Persian, Spanish, French) and/or global issues and can be integrated into existing courses or purchased for individual student use. All of NaTakallam’s services for academic institutions are centered around providing affordable and enriching opportunities that complement existing coursework. For all programs, NaTakallam conversation partners work with professors to align sessions in support of ongoing coursework objectives and track students’ participation throughout the semester, allowing professors to account for these sessions as part of students’ grades.
Our Academic Programs
LANGUAGE PRACTICE IN ARABIC, PERSIAN, SPANISH or FRENCH:
Integrate one-on-one online sessions into your existing language course. Each student is paired with a conversation partner for practice outside the classroom. Conversation partners work with professors to craft sessions that support their curriculum.
Cultural Exchange in English:
Go beyond the headlines and the statistics to discover the lives and perspectives of displaced people. Integrate a series of one-on-one online dialogue sessions into courses related to human rights, refugee studies, or other relevant subjects.
INDEPENDENT LANGUAGE STUDY:
Offer one-on-one language sessions to students across your university. Not tied to a specific course, students sign-up and schedule sessions using an easy online registration form.
VIRTUAL GUEST SPEAKER:
Amplify refugee voices with a one-time group session that invites a NaTakallam conversation partner to videoconference into any campus event for Q&A and discussion regarding the impact of displacement of their lives. Sessions can take place in English or any of our other offered languages.
“The cultural exchange offered by NaTakallam provided an authentic experience for my university students about how truly challenging the refugee journey is. I have been involved in refugee research for 19 years; yet, I could not offer the same level of understanding that refugees working for NaTakallam give through cultural exchanges.”
– Jody McBrien, Professor of Human Migration, University of South Florida
“Interacting with language partners through Natakallam has made Arabic come alive for our students. They’ve applied their classroom linguistic and cultural information in the real world, and have come away not only with new knowledge, but also with a renewed passion for Arabic.”
– Rana Abdul-Aziz, Language Coordinator & Lecturer Arabic Program, Tufts University
